BioZone® Air Purification Technology

PhotoPlasma is generated by airborne molecules such as oxygen and water vapour under the exposure of the specialized UV spectrum. It includes reactive oxygen species, free radicals, electrons, etc., which actively capture various air contaminants and rapidly destroy their structures by a chain of reactions. Thus, the contaminants are decomposed and converted into harmless end-products like carbon dioxide and water. Eventually it effectively improves the indoor air quality.

Summary of Points made in the Paper
“Cold Oxygen Plasma Technogy Efficiency Against Different Airborne Respiratory Viruses”
in Journal of Clinical Virology by Terrier et al

  1. The paper documents and discuss an experiment done in a BioZone Safety Level 3 Laboratory in France under WHO.
  2. Objective of the experiment discussed in the paper was to test the efficiency of Cold Oxygen Plasma (COP) in reducing air-borne virus/bacteria.
  3. Cold Oxygen Plasma (COP) produced by BioZone Air Purifier was used in the experiment.
  4. Three class of viruses – RSV, hPIV-3 and H5N2 influenza viruses – were tested.
  5. SARS, MERS and Corona viruses are in the class of RSV.
  6. Viral suspension was prepared and nebulized to aerosolized water droplets of average size at 1.9 micron, similar to that produced by human being.
  7. 3 virus reduction set-ups were tested
    • Classic germicidal UV lamp in close proximity
    • Cold Oxygen Plasma Only
    • Cold Oxygen Plasma (with Plasma Lamp)
[note: COP Only was the case of pump-in Plasma]
  8. Air Speed during the test was 0.9 m/s (which is generally higher than indoor air flow).
  9. % Efficiency determined in the experiment (reduction of virus) were:
  10. Classic UVCOP OnlyCOP with Plasma Lamp
    H5N299.6099.20>99.99
    hPIV-399.6799.92>99.99
    RSV99.299.0099.98
  11. The results have shown that:
    • The performance of COP alone is closely equivalent to the effect of Classic germicidal UV lamp at close distance.
    • COP with Plasma lamp produced the best results of greater than 99.98% reduction in all cases.
  12. The writers concluded that:
    • COP technology was apparently an efficient air decontamination tool to protect human population against air-borne infections
    • BioZone COP were in-use to prevent dissemination of multi-resistant bacteria in hospital
    • BioZone COP could be used to control the air-borne transmission of viruses in high-risks settings, like hospital wards.
    • COP Technology could constitute a precious tool for the reduction of influenza transmission in consultation settings for the management of cases during a pandemic.
